In the Sight of God of Great Price

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.                                     1 Peter 3:4

That statement, “which is in the sight of God of great price” struck me when I was newly saved.  I so wanted to develop this character trait if it was so important to God… a meek and quiet spirit.

The Strongs concordance says meek means gentleness of spirit, humble, mild.  Quiet in the Strongs doesn’t mean quiet as in not talking, but tranquil or undisturbed.  This passage speaks of a lady that trusts God. She can stay tranquil and undisturbed in rough waters and troubled seas.  To be able to be this lady, we have to apply what we learned last time, we have to find rest onto our souls because we have learned of Jesus and can rest in him in the trials and troubles.  We can still follow our husbands because, though our imperfect husbands make mistakes, our God does not.

Sarah was a great example of this, who said nothing when her husband said she was his sister and let her be taken by a heathen king.  God didn’t let her down.  God protected her and defended her and she was restored to her husband.  Verse 5 that follows the above verse speaks of the holy women of old time who trusted in God adorned themselves with this virtue.  Trusting God is the key to having a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.  So we seek to follow after these ladies’ example.

Wishing you ladies a clean house and a nap.  ;o)
