A Time to Mourn

Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8

There will be seasons of mourning and grieving, and lately it seems like so many are going through so much, but mourning according to God’s Word is a good thing; so take heart my friend. We can run to Jesus, our refuge, to help us get through it; and the grief we are going through will actually do a perfecting and maturing work like no other. Ecclesiastes 7:2-4 tells us the wise are in the house of mourning and sorrow is actually good for the heart. James 4:5-10.

Matthew 5:4 says Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. It has been during times of sorrow and trials that I have experienced God’s comfort, and it made the times of trial worth going through. There is nothing better in life than experiencing God’s presence.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 calls God the God of All Comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation. What a blessing to know we can go through sorrows with such a compassionate God! Jesus is also called the Man of Sorrows, acquainted with grief in Isaiah 53:3-4. He can identify with us in sorrow and has actually went through far worse, because of our sin. Hebrews 2:17-18 and 4:15-16 says we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities. It says he is a merciful and faithful high priest that has been tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin. So he calls us to himself for grace and mercy to help in time of need. 1 Peter 5:7 says to cast all our cares on him and Psalm 62:8 says to pour out our heart to him; He is a refuge for us. Psalm 147:3 says he heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds. So we don’t have to walk through grief and mourning times alone. He is merciful and faithful and will walk with you, the God of All Comfort, all the way. Often people can only grieve with us so long, but God tells us he will never leave us nor forsake us. Hebrews 13:5 Deuteronomy 31:6 We can count on him.

All my love to you, dear friends, in your times of mourning.

Andrea

  1. It seems like those who are sick or have trials are far more compassionate. God gives us a tender heart as we learn from our trials.

    1. I think that is really true. I saw it ring true in the scriptures as I was studying the subject. It says that sorrow makes the heart better. I think we grow and mature through the trials and suffering. We become able to comfort others with the same comfort God comforted us with and just like you said, we develop that compassionate heart that can minister to others because we have been through some things too.
